What you will learn
How to write a paper and get it published- Leave the course with your first draft of your paper
- Make logical and informed decisions on where to send papers
- Reduce writing in the final stages by early planning
- Use simple techniques to cut ‘information overload’
- Make the most of scarce time by writing for 10 minutes a day
- Use evidence-based writing to solve disputes with others
- apply simple marketing techniques
While I’d written a few abstracts and posters before, I struggled to take the step to getting whole papers published. The course made it all seem a lot more straightforward. I got writing straight after. Jamie really helped me understand how to write for much wider audiences, including those I wouldn’t have considered interested in my research. Within a year I’d had three papers accepted.

Information
What is the goal of the course?
The course will show you how to prepare, write and submit an original journal article that has a good chance of being accepted for publication. It will also set you well on the way to doing so.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
The most important thing to bring is an idea for a journal article. Ideally you should have collected the data. During the day you will be working this idea up into an article.
What will the course cover?
The course goes through the process of writing a scientific paper in ten easy stages.
Is this the right course for me?
The course is for anyone who is writing – or about to write – an article for a peer reviewed jounral. It is particularly suitable for those who feel intimidated by those who already have their names on the databases. It is about the writing process and is not a course on technical editing or critical appraisal.
What is the format of the course?
The course has been designed for groups of about 12 people. They are run informally, with plenty of time for discussion and practical work.
Who should not attend
This course is not suitable for those who have yet to decide on what to write about, who want a course in critical appraisal or ‘scientific English’, or who are on the whole satisfied with the way they write.
